Gutter being re-secured and re-pitched along a roofline
Reinforcement & slope correction · Edmonton

Straighten the sag. Fix the fall.

Sagging, pooling troughs re-hung on hidden screw hangers and re-pitched to a true fall toward the outlet — so water actually runs to the downspout instead of sitting and freezing.

Why a sagging trough fails

A gutter is only as good as its fall. Lose the slope, lose the drainage.

An eavestrough has to sit at a slight, deliberate slope so water runs to the downspout. Over the years, ice load, spike hangers backing out of the fascia, and the sheer weight of a full trough pull that slope out of true. The trough sags in the middle, water pools instead of draining, and every winter that standing water freezes and pulls it down further.

We re-hang the trough on hidden screw hangers that grip the fascia far better than old spike-and-ferrule, correct the pitch to a proper fall, and reinforce the weak points so it holds. It's the fix that stops the sag from coming straight back next season.

  • Ends standing water and mid-run pooling
  • Hidden screw hangers grip the fascia properly
  • True re-pitch so water runs to the outlet
  • Reduces ice load that tears troughs off in winter
  • Saves a trough that would otherwise need replacing

Common problems

Three signs your trough has lost its slope.

Sagging in the middle

A visible dip along the run is the classic sign the hangers have let go and the slope is gone. Water collects at the low point instead of draining to the downspout.

Pulling away from the fascia

Old spike-and-ferrule hangers work loose and back out of the wood, so the trough lifts and gaps away from the house — letting water run behind it into the fascia and soffit.

Standing water & ice load

Water that can't drain sits in the trough, and in an Edmonton winter it freezes solid. That ice weight is what rips a sagging trough clean off the house by spring.

The difference

Drag the handle. Straight, and draining.

Every job ends with a flow test and before-and-after photos — sent before the invoice, so you can see the line runs true.

What we handle

The full reinforcement scope.

Where a trough can be saved instead of replaced, this is what a correction visit covers.

Slope & pitch correction

The trough is re-set to a true fall toward the outlet so water runs where it should — the core fix that stops mid-run pooling.

Hidden screw hanger upgrade

Old spike-and-ferrule fasteners replaced with hidden screw hangers that bite into the fascia and hold the trough far more securely.

Sag & dip re-hanging

Dipped and sagging sections lifted back to line and re-secured, with extra hangers added through the weak spans so it stays put.

Fascia board check

We check the fascia the hangers grip into. Where it's soft or rotted from years of overflow, we flag it and re-anchor into sound wood.

Reinforcement at stress points

Corners, long spans and downspout outlets take the most load. We reinforce those spots so the correction lasts through the freeze-thaw cycle.

Flow test & photo report

Every corrected run is water-tested on the spot and documented with before-and-after photos, so you know the fall runs true.

How it works

From sagging to straight, in one visit.

STEP 01

Check the line & fall

We measure the pitch, find where it's dipped, and check the fascia the hangers grip into — so we fix the cause, not just the symptom.

STEP 02

Fixed written price

One number, itemised by run. If a section is too corroded to save, we'll say so honestly and quote the alternative — no pressure.

STEP 03

Re-hang & re-pitch

The trough is lifted to line, set to a true fall, and re-secured on hidden screw hangers with reinforcement added at the weak spans.

STEP 04

Flow test & photos

We run water through and confirm it drains clean to the outlet, then send before-and-after photos. You pay once you've seen it drain.

Straight answers

Questions we get about slope correction.

In most cases we can save it. If the aluminium itself isn't split or badly corroded and the fascia is sound, re-hanging on hidden screw hangers and re-pitching the run costs a fraction of a replacement and lasts for years. We'll tell you honestly during the check if a section is genuinely past saving.

Because the old spike-and-ferrule hangers loosen in the same holes every time — the wood is worn and the nail has nothing fresh to bite. Hidden screw hangers thread into sound fascia and clamp the trough far more firmly, which is why the correction holds instead of dropping again next winter.

The main culprit in Edmonton is ice and snow load — a trough full of frozen water is heavy, and that weight drags the hangers out over repeated winters. Add clogged troughs holding standing water, undersized hangers spaced too far apart, and settling of the house, and the fall slowly pulls out of true.

A common guideline is roughly a quarter-inch of fall for every 10 feet of run toward the downspout — enough to drain fully without being visibly tilted. On longer runs we may pitch from a high point in the middle toward downspouts at both ends. We set it by eye and by water test, not guesswork.

Yes — the fascia is what the hangers hold onto, so we always check it. If years of overflow have left it soft or rotted, we'll show you the photos and re-anchor into sound wood. Full fascia board replacement is carpentry outside gutter services, but we'll flag exactly what's needed.

It's priced by the length of run being corrected and how many hangers need replacing. A single sagging section is a small flat fee; a full re-hang and re-pitch is quoted after the check. You always get one fixed written number before any work begins.
