Find the leak. Seal it for the winter.
Seams, end caps, mitres and outlet collars resealed with a cold-weather butyl that stays flexible through freeze-thaw — instead of cracking again by February.
A dripping seam today is a soft fascia board by spring.
Most gutter leaks start small — a hairline gap at a seam, a lifted end cap, a mitre that's pulled apart a few millimetres. In summer you barely notice. But every Edmonton winter, water finds that gap, freezes, expands and widens it. What was a drip in October is a steady run down your fascia by March, and the board underneath is rotting.
The trick isn't just sealing — it's sealing with the right material. Standard silicone goes brittle and lets go at −30°C. We use a cold-weather butyl that stays flexible through the whole freeze-thaw cycle, so the repair actually lasts more than one season.
- Stops water tracking into fascia & soffit
- Cold-weather butyl that survives freeze-thaw
- Full water-flow test after every repair
- Honest call on repair vs. replace
- Same-week slots for active leaks
Three spots that fail first.
Seams & joints
Where two sections of trough meet is the first place sealant fails. Movement from expansion, ice load and settling opens a gap that widens every winter.
End caps & mitres
Corners and end caps take constant flex. A mitre that's pulled apart even a couple of millimetres will drip steadily — usually right over a doorway or walkway.
Outlet collars & pinholes
The collar where the downspout drops off the trough corrodes and works loose. Add rust pinholes along the base and you get a slow leak that's easy to miss until the damage is done.
Drag the handle. Sealed and flowing.
Every repair ends with a flow test and before-and-after photos — sent before the invoice, so you can see the fix without climbing up to check.
The full leak-repair scope.
If it can be saved without a full replacement, we save it. Here's what a repair visit covers.
Seam & joint re-sealing
Old, failed sealant scraped out and replaced with cold-weather butyl at every seam and joint — the repair that fixes most leaks outright.
End cap & mitre repair
Lifted end caps re-bedded and leaking mitres re-joined and sealed. Where a corner is beyond saving, we replace just that piece.
Pinhole & crack patching
Rust pinholes and stress cracks along the trough base cleaned, patched and sealed watertight so they stop weeping down the wall.
Outlet collar re-seating
Loose or corroded downspout outlets re-seated and sealed so water leaves the trough cleanly instead of leaking around the collar.
Section replacement
When a run is split, badly corroded or beyond sealing, we swap out just that length rather than pushing a full replacement you don't need.
Flow test & photo report
Every repair is water-tested on the spot and documented with before-and-after photos, so you know the leak is actually gone.
From leak to watertight, in one visit.
Find the source
We trace the leak to its actual source — not just where the water shows. A drip at the corner often starts three feet up the run.
Fixed written price
One number, itemised by repair. If we find the trough is past saving, we'll tell you honestly and quote the alternative — no pressure.
Prep & seal properly
Old sealant removed, surface cleaned and dried, then sealed with cold-weather butyl. A rushed bead over dirty aluminium never lasts — we don't do that.
Flow test & photos
We run water through and confirm it's watertight, then send before-and-after photos. You pay once you've seen the leak is gone.
Questions we get about leak repair.
In most cases, repair. If the fascia board is sound and the aluminium isn't split or badly corroded, re-sealing seams and re-seating outlets buys you many more years for a fraction of a replacement. We'll tell you honestly when a run is genuinely past saving — that's what the photo report is for.
Usually one of two reasons: the sealant was applied over a dirty or wet surface so it never bonded, or it was a standard silicone that goes brittle and cracks at Alberta winter temperatures. We prep the surface properly and use a cold-weather butyl rated for freeze-thaw, which is what makes the repair actually hold.
Active leaks are triaged same or next day where we can, and we keep same-week slots open for repairs. Storm damage is prioritised. Call 587-937-5517 and we'll get you booked as fast as the schedule allows.
For active winter leaks and ice-related damage, yes — we handle those year-round. The surface has to be clean and dry for the sealant to bond, so in deep cold we may need to clear ice and dry the area first. In some cases the best move is a temporary fix until a proper reseal can be done in a thaw; we'll walk you through it.
We fix the gutter and can re-secure or advise on soft fascia and soffit directly affected by the leak. Structural water damage, interior repairs or roofing work fall outside gutter services — but we'll flag exactly what we see so you can bring in the right trade before it gets worse.
It depends on how many repair points there are and whether any sections need replacing. A single seam or end cap reseal is a small flat fee; multiple points or a section swap are quoted after inspection. You always get one fixed written number before any work begins.
Stop the leak before winter widens it.
